Canine Remedial Massage therapy & Stretching

through targeted massage techniques, remedial massage helps release muscle tension & tightness, reduce inflammation, break up adhesions (knots), increase blood circulation, Improve mobility & Flexibility, and calm anxious dogs.

How it Works

  • Increased Blood Circulation: Pressure and squeezing techniques during massage have a pumping effect on the blood circulation, the pressure forces the blood out of the vessels towards the heart. When pressure is released the vessel refills with arterial blood, so circulation is improved.
  • Break up adhesions (Knots) Increase Mobility: Adhesions are internal scar tissue that can clump together to form what we call ‘knots.’ Scar tissue and adhesions can limit mobility, cause pain and cause compensatory movements. Massage aims to prevent/treat excessive scarring, reduce pain and reduce compensatory movements.
  • Increase Flexibility: Adhesions can also affect a muscles optimal length and immobility causes fascia to shorten and stick. This can result in limited flexibility. Massage and stretching will help restore normal muscle and fascial length and normal muscle functioning.
  • Calming Anxious Dogs and Helping Release Tension (Working on the Nervous System): If there is tension in the tissues through anxiousness, pain and/or injury it may mean that we have an overactive sympathetic nervous system (flight, fight or fright) and more stress hormones released. Superficial massage stimulates the nerve receptors, and this can aid in relaxation. Massage also leads to the release of endorphins that help reduce pain and again help in relaxation.
  • Massage after Sporting injuries: Sprains and Strains are the most common sporting injury. Dogs are poor at self-limiting and are always excited to participate even if they are experiencing pain. Massage can assist in treatment of tight muscles and reducing pain by increasing circulation and range of motion.
  • Stretching: We can passively (with caution) and actively assist dogs into a position to stretch. We do this gently and after the dog has warmed up (walked around for 10 minutes) and after massage so the dog is also completely relaxed.

We always begin our treatments gently massaging within comfort of the patient and continuously gauging their response.

Massage has so many benefits that almost all dogs benefit in some shape or form.

During the treatment I will make use of a Pet Pemf Mat for the dog to lay or sit on or being placed
under the targeted area. The non-invasive PEMF mat relieves pain and swelling, improves joint
health and mobility, and speeds up recovery post op.

How does PEMF technology work?

Pets’ entire bodies are electrochemical organs and can be effectively influenced by low and safe electromagnetic frequencies.

PEMF uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate and balance the cell’s functions gently with a pulsating magnetic field that enetrates deeply into the tissues and cells. The treatment is painless and non-invasive, and most pets find it relaxing and soothing.

laser therapy

Cold laser therapy is a significant treatment for pain and inflammation, orthopedic, neuropathic, wounds and after surgery rehabilitation.

How it WOrks

A Cold Laser emits a photon (light) energy beam, which affects our body on a cellular level as photons penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the cells, the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) are stimulated and produce more ATP (the energy unit of the cell). This process increases blood flow and cellular growth, which may decrease inflammation and improve overall cellular function, thus aiding the body in healing itself.

Cold Laser Therapy emerges as a promising option for individuals in search of non-invasive treatments and works well alongside Remedial Massage.
